Gay cruising history of Indore

Submitted by WeirdVerma * Location: Indore (Madhya Pradesh, India)

Hi. This is is not necessarily a cruising suggestion. But I'm looking for old stories of cruising from Indore. Especially Nehru Park and Milky Way theatre. How and when it all started? What is the scene of Gay prostitutes in Indore. Did they exist in Bombay Bazaar times as well in 90s? Older gays please help me for this project. I'm trying to find the queer history of Indore.

I would love to know about the history of cruising in Indore too. I imagine there must have been so many places on the outer areas of the city which would not have been developed at the time. Wonderful dark public places to have ***.

I only know that some 15-20 years ago, 56 dukaan area was a great place to find prostitutes. My male cousins used to discuss this when I was young. They mostly used to discuss female prostitutes but they also repeatedly talked about male prostitutes and how they could be identified. If I remember correctly, my cousins said, they used to wear red ribbons on their wrists. That time I always assumed they talked about straight male prostitutes, but thinking about it now I am sure few would have been gay/bisexual.

Can't wait to read more entries in this thread

Thanks Sandeep for the insight. I had heard a lot about Palasia when I came to Indore in 2003. So I think 56 dukaan story might be closer to truth. I'm also interested to know about the gay cruising history of Nehru Park, which I believe is the oldest spot of the city. How long does it go back?

I've only heard about Nehru Park and Meghdoot garden, about them being old cruising spots. Been to Dusherra Miadan, that might be an old spot as well. My crusing journey started 6 or so years ago from Residency Kothi area.

Residency Kothi.. Interesting. Never heard of that place in this context. I first found about Nehru Park in 2015. So almost 9 years now. And even then, someone told me it was much older. The accounts I heard, go as back to 1970-1980s.

Hi guys
Its a interesting subject for whole world
According my imagination, i think it started from eye contact, if u had eye contact with someone or with others, in some particular area, then the stories whisper to ear to ear, definitely the person shared to his close friend.
In our era in kolkata cruising place , people understand each others mind play, but dont know how to approach or talk, so they ask, what is the time now(he had with own wrist watch )now, how funny.
But i feel, those are not in internet era, then life was so thrilling excited, nowdays everything open so no charm.
But i think its very exciting some rural area

A request from the older gays of Indore to please help and contribute to this thread. From how long has Nehru Park been active? What was it like in Indore before 2010 and even in 80s and 90s? I've heard there were a lot of trees near Regal and that's where people used to meet. Back in 1930s-40s, Milky Way theatre used to show B-grade films as well. So there must be a lot of stories unknown to us. Please do help. Thank you.

Dekha jaye to phle k jamane me ese koi fix jagah nhi hoti thi. Sab logo ki story alag alag tarike se shuru hoti thi

Jese koi driver he or lambe route ki trasport truck chalte he to uske sath ek helper bhi hota he. To wo helper us hisab se le jate jo km age ka ho or raste me s*x ki jarurat puri krde. Garib log apne bete ho sath bhej dete the ki ye driver k sath rhega to kam sikh jayega.

Ya fir kisi milne julne walo ke kisi agar koi samuhik program ho or sath me sote sote kisi ke sath ho jata to waha unki shuruwat hoti thi.
Fir jo log apas me s*x kr chuke he wo kisi Nye bande k sath krte to apas me bat krke bat age badhate or Nye bande se bhi milwane ka jugad karwate.

Gav me bhi ese hi Jin logo ko gay intrest hota hoga wo bhi ese hi moka dhund kar krte hoge or secretly naye naye logo se milte hoge or ek dusre ko milate hoge.

Indore k purane time ki bat kro to waha bhi ese hi shuru hua hoga
Indore ki mandi bahut purani he
Waha par bahar k gav wale or driver ate the dur dur se
Wahi par rat ko sote bhi the to bas unki ese hi shuruwat Hui hogi kyoki waha sab ek dusre se anjan the to kar lete hoge. Jan pehchan walo k sath krne me risk hota tha injjat ka

Bhai sirf baahar wale nahi the.. Also, it was not like there were no fixed places. Nehru Park and Milky Way Theatre were huge spots. Pehle 3 tunnels thi Nehru Park mein.. 2 were broken because of cruising. There were people who met online too. Bridge ke niche ke areas, B-grade theatres and some grounds were also famous. Bas yahi hai ki time difference h stories m kaafi. Indore m migration zyada after 80s Hua, when industrialisation happened. We had mills but many had started going off. So unke aane ke pehle bhi kaafi scene tha.

Can't say about history, I started travelling to Indore from Delhi on late 90s. In the year 1997 I visited indore for the first time and I started roaming around railway station as that's where I thought people use to cruise or any bus stand in pre mobile era.
I met one person through I contact near reservation counter he was in mid 30s. We started chatting and he asked to let's roam arround as he wanted to show me some place nearby. We were on his bike and he took me to regal cinema first showing the nearby area famous for cousing at that time. We saw few people under the bridge and on the road going towards regal cinema.
Little further to regal chauraha there was a library on the rt side next was high court building. He informed that in the day time specially in the afternoon library is the cruising area. People come to read the news paper kept on the table where you can stant and read the paper. If someone is interested he will stand with you and start reading the same paper stand close to you that is the signal.
There was a urinal beside the wall of highcourt that use to be cruisy in the evening after dark till mid night. Lateron I explored all these and the urinal was really good place as it was covered in a way that no one can see what's happening inside. 4 booths and lots of space inside accomodated at least 10-12 people at a time. So if you want to do any thing there it was possible.
That urinal was my spot every evening if m in Indore. Hooked up with a Dr there, a Sindhi business man, a young Muslim guy and many more.
Rajwada urinal near parking was cruisy whole night I heard not experienced.
People use to cruise near sapna Sangeeta complex as well but it was not a popular spot.

Thanks for the information Sahaisab. So the regal area was pretty active in late 90s as well. That is established. I've heard the theory about red handkerchiefs quite a few times now.. Was it the case back then too? Also, it seems like the High Court area had a lot more classier crowd. The newspaper bit is something I had heard long ago.. So was in my memory faintly. Thanks for reviving this. Hope we get to hear about stories from earlier as well.

My very first cruising experience is in 1989-1990. At that time, there was a urinal right next to the entrance of rajwada. If you are facing rajwada, the urinal was on the left side. It was an underground urinal so had to go down 10-12 stairs. I vividly remember entering the urinal to find a bunch of guys standing and few of them jerking. All were in there for fun. I was very young at the time so just got some eye candy. The summer of 89, during school holidays I developed a routine...start at the rajwada urinal, then walk all the way to Kothari market. There was an empty piece of land (its still there with sulabh toilets now). There you would find people peeing and half of them wanting fun. Once a government employee approached ne after finishing his business at the urinal. The classis "what time it is" question. Followed by come with me to the disrtict court office and we will have fun. Again I was too young (less than 18) so chickend out.

Have more stories to share from early 90s.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing Neeta. So Rajwada was a happening place. Can you tell me when did you discover Regal crowd? Also, what were other places that you visited?

That loo next to.Rajwada was demolished (rightfully so) when they painted the building. The second cruising spot was the loo at the far end of rajwada, tucked between Rajwada and the shops ( Khajuri Bazar Chouraha). It used to be always busy with the local shopkeeprs. Very hot and young but minding their business. The loo got cruisier in the evening.
The third spot in that area was the loo next to Indore hospital. It was right before the two wheeler parking lot. Incidentally the loo is still there. I met people there a few times in the evening and took the action in the parking lot since the lot had no lights.
Finally the other cruising happened at the back of Rajwada, towards Sarafa bazaar in the evening. I met couple of guys there. All you needed to do was lock the eyes. Many orthodox but hot people( think guys wearing Tilak) looking for fun.

Fun times....

In the early 2000s, the internet cafes became great cruising spots. I vividly remember going to kne of these cafes on MG road ( there is a Wine shop now). You paid whatever nominal amount was to be paid to surf internet and you got a cubicle for yourself. Think of it was a small office cubicle with 6ft tall wooden panels and a 3 ft square door that covered the ce ter part but not the top or bottom. I logged into one of the g chat rooms( I think it was rediff) and was chatting to a guy. An utter coincidence but that guy happened to be in the same internet cafe. I told him my cubicle number, he ended his session and came to my cubicle. Back in those days, internet was pretty new and it wasnt uncommon for two people to be using the computer for browsing or doing whatever they needed to do( like typing an email πŸ˜€). So the guys comes to my cuble, we are facing the door, and browing the "net" sitting on a bench. And start playing with each others ***. The cafe guy would make rounds every 30 mins peeking from the top. But this soon became a great place to hook up for straight and gay people alike!
Another similar cafe was on RNT road opposite the University.

Oh yes. I have been in cyber cafes and know the kind of privacy it had. Never shared it with anyone but yes, the mailing and chatrooms were interesting. I think Rajiv here had told me about the indore.com Web chat which would have guys and the top-bottom lingo was only understood by them. In Bombay there was G4Men and other Google forums too. Internet was a commodity that not everyone owned.

Indore.com was slow and that time used to fix up date by sharing colour of shirt and precise time and location of standing it was fun

Another 2 hot cruising point ( one of them is still there) is in the square where Marothiya Bazar, Cloth Market, Bartan Bazaae and Bohri Bazar meet. There is a parking garge as well as two sets of washrooms/urinals. The men's urinal on the side with many stalls is cruisy. You will normally meet workers from the nearby markets over there. The partitions are low and men who get ***, come there, get hard and jo. Hard to do anything there but you can take action elsewhere.

The second one does exist any longer but it was right behind Sarafa Thana. Over the years had the pleasure of seeing and playing with many ***.

With more city expansion and overcrowding, those places have disappeared. Btw, I heard that back in 90s, Bombay Bazaar was one of the major red light areas of Indore, before it was all closed. If that was so, were only female prostitutes worked there or male pimps too?

Hard to tell...until the fall of Bala Baig, Bombay Bazaar was out of bounds for most non muslims. Back in the day, the Hindu- Muslim riots were frequent occurances as well. I was too yoing to be hinting for male pimps at that time 😁

Im talking about Indore, some 20-25 years ago. It was very different place from now, but Indore did had an underground gay scene even then. There were may gay cruising spots and Indiatimes/ Yahoo and MIRC chats were famous for quick hook up. Unlike today's app scene, people did not waste anyone's time by just yapping nonsense. I use to visit Indore for work and stayed mostly at hotel Surya, I think now it is called Madhumilan Square but back in the days it called something else.
I had been to regular cruising spots like the bus stand and sarafa.

Over period of time, I did make some good regular friends in Indore, and for us it went beyond bed, I always looked forward visiting Indore. But as all good things come to end, I changed jobs and trips to Indore stopped, over period of time lost touch with old friends from Indore. Damn this post made me nostalgic, think Indore is calling.

Guys, post more posts of latest scene in Indore.
