Date of incident: Dec 19, 2023 Tuesday

Place & Time: Amrut Nagar, Mumbra around 7:30/8 PM

Description of accused/scammer: Two youngsters within age 20-24 yrs, slim fit and one of the guys was handsome gym fit and well-toned, while other was average looking.

Incident details: It was a normal day for me as I was coming back home from the office. I got down at the Mumbra station as the train was over-crowded and I wanted to board the Dombivli slow for less crowd. While waiting for the train, I turned on my Gr account and got a chance to interact with guys around. The guy who invited me over was cute, handsome and gym-going so I was pretty much interested. He asked me to come over to Amrut Nagar and will take me to his place from there. He was running late, when asked he said he is having a shower as he just returned back home from the gym. It took him more than 20 mins to arrive and I was about to leave.
After waiting for a long time, he suddenly stood before me and started talking to me. We started walking together and instead of going inside from the main road, we started walking backwards. At this point I realized something is not good, and then suddenly another guy approached us asking where we were headed to. The guy was silent, only I was talking with his friend. I said he is taking me home and that we are friends from his gym. He asked me the name of the gym, I was totally speechless and the guy threw me under the bus (phrase_left me to answer the questions, he was just silent saying nothing). They started saying that they would approach the cops, if I don’t cooperate and asked me to come to the corner (so that they can loot me). I shouted at them and refused to obey them. And I just sat inside the rickshaw and asked the rickshaw guy to proceed. And he refused because he wanted to see the tamasha over there. The rickshaw guy finally left along with me after requesting thrice, and started accusing me that I was also not innocent.

Before meeting this guy, I was suspicious about guys from Mumbra so I always keep cash, IDs, Atm-Debit-Credit cards somewhere hidden in my bag. So I was prepared enough to face these SCAMMERS. Secondly, I already had local police numbers in ready-to-dial mode so that if the situation escalated I could just get the cops without wasting any time.

I’m glad that I was able to stop them at an early stage. It was like stopping Cancer at the first stage before it grows ahead. However, another guy from Gr had the worst experience from these Scammers in Mumbra. This is a guy from Thane, and was invited to Mumbra by a similar group of Scammers. They took him to their home, assaulted and looted him first with whatever he had in his bag. They also made his nude video and threatened him with consequences if he didn't tell the debit card pin. Luckily, his phone had a lock and they black-mailed him a lot to open the home screen lock but he purposely put the wrong password thrice, which locked his phone for like another 30 mins. During this time, another guy joined them and he was a minor. They crossed all the levels, and took some pictures in compromising positions with the minor, and started blackmailing again that they will approach the police. Later, he was released after a lot of torture and physical assault.

Probably the guy from Thane was somewhere lucky to got released after an hour of physical assault and torture. But if they would have approached cops then it would have been a very difficult situation. Because a case under POSCO act would have been registered regardless of any evidence or situation.

Guys please be very careful when you deal with young looking guys. You may not be aware how someone would misuse the POSCO Act. Please be very careful when someone says they turned 18 or 19, try to ask for ID proof if you are skeptical because your action will have such a reaction that you will never forget in your life.

Tips when you meet someone for hookup at their private place:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Please leave your personal ID, documents, jewelry, cash, valuables at home or office or hide somewhere in a bag.
Your wallet should contain only cash that you can afford to loose (I just keep change of Rs.200/-)
Please try to meet in crowded area/ public place, where you can easily raise the voice (just like I raised voice when he asked me to come in the corner to loot me)
If you are visiting a hotel, ask your date to meet in the lobby and talk to them for 2 mins. See that they escort you to the room along with them.
Sometimes guys ask you to come to the hotel and they send you to an unknown room, so be very careful. They just direct you randomly to any room and you could be in trouble later.
Always keep SOS message system ready or nearby local police station number handy if you find yourself in trouble

NOTE: Please do not mention anyone’s race, religion or caste, as our justice system doesn’t discriminate when pleaded guilty. Thank you guys for reading this thread, hopefully we can create a safe environment for the community. Feel free to add more safety tips for the community and please report such incidents so that others can identify the red flags.

@thenerdz sorry for whatever happened with you but you brought it upon yourself. everyone knows mumbra is a trap full of *** addicts, fraudsters and STDs. no prejudice against any area but mumbra is literally one of the worst areas where the local people themself have started moving out because of charsi neighborhood. no matter how *** you are, never let your libido take control over your brain. above all, your own safety is paramount. almost every week there's a story from mumbra where they entice people through grindr and loot them. there have been incidents of *** after giving the victims drugs. stay alert.

Sharing it again here. A thrilling yet scary experience and I am still kinda recovering from what happened.

I just saved myself from a scam or rather I walked right into it out of curiosity to expose a scam. Having read and watched many books and series, movies on spies and detectives, I am always aware of my surroundings and think about everything like a sceptic as if it's a movie plot and always wanted to expose a nexus. I was approached by someone on grindr with username ‘Visitor WP’. the guy verified himself with a video call and called me to his hotel but something about it was very fishy. He shared two numbers saying that his battery was running out and asked me to call on those numbers. These guys often put fake names on Truecaller to seem real so i checked those numbers on Gpay and Paytm and the numbers showed different names than what he'd told me. (I didn't share my number and told him that I will call once i come near the hotel) I still decided to go. I parked my car at distance, logged out of my Gpay account and kept only 200 bucks in wallet, walked for a kilometre and stood opposite the hotel behind a car wearing a mask. The guy was outside the hotel talking to two people and they disappeared in some time. He opened grindr and texted me “I am here”. By this time, i was almost sure that it was a scam. The hotel/ lodge too was shady. I met him, told him a fake name and went inside. He took me to the top floor of the hotel and then we climbed down 4 floors to get to his room. As we were outside his room, he started finding his room key card and started pretending that he had ost it and would have to get it from the reception. A staff guy came with a master key and opened the room door. We got in and he started undressing me and I played along. He wanted me to take a shower but I refused saying that I have less time at hand. I was just waiting for something to happen because I knew he was putting a trap around me. Suddenly the phone in his room started ringing and he said it was a call from the reception asking him whether someone has come to his room. He told on the call “Koi nahi hain sir, mein akela hu. Mere sath koi nahi hain, aap aake check kar sakte hain.” I quickly put my clothes on. I had an alternate identity card ready with me. His friend (the one i saw him talking to before meeting) pretending to be a receptionist came to our room and knocked. I was fully dressed by then but this guy purposely opened the door naked. The guy pretending to be receptionist started saying that I have gained unauthorised access to the hotel room and will either have to a pay a huge fine or they'll take me to the police station since they caught us red handed (as that guy was nude). Little did they know that I had done my research about legal rights of two adults in a hotel room and the due process of police or hotel authority raiding the room. I gave them an at-length sermon as to how I have done nothing wrong and was well within my rights. Now was the time to play UNO reverse card. I told them I was there to expose their scam and have a team of cops ready with me. They got scared and started saying “Tum jaao, kuch nahi karenge, bas police ko mat bulao”. Sadly that lodge/hotel had no CCTV cameras and I didn't want to create scene as I am quite discreet, so filing an FIR would mean divulging my identity and give statement. I just made them delete Grindr app and asked if they've scammed anyone before. They said I was the first guinea pig. That might be true because I had never seen this profile before. I threatened them that I will track them down to wherever they are if they dare do something like this in the future and left. Could they have done something dangerous with me inside that hotel room when I tried exposing them? Was that shady lodge management involved in this scam? Let few questions be unanswered, maybe it was just my childish desire to recreate a thriller movie which could have actually totally gone wrong but being a strong devotee of Hanumanji and Kalbhairava, I knew my lord was with me. The reason behind writing this is- Never, Never, Never be scared. Always stand your ground and let no one think you are vulnerable. Half the scammers are successful because the victims easily get scared. These guys were immature hence could do nothing to me, if it were a big nexus, i could be at risk. I wouldn't advise anyone to do these detective thrills on their own but always be aware, guys.

@MridulS...Thank you reporting the entire incident in details. First of all, hats off to your courage and a daring mission. This type of scam is very common and increasing these days.
Would you be able to describe how these two idiots look like and what area was this lodge located ? I'm asking so that other readers could consider the red flags associated with this incident and we can stay more alert if same scammers or someone from similar area tries to scam Gr users. I still wonder how can someone enter the lodge and start behaving like a receptionist. Well this makes me think that the lodge itself might be involved in this scam too, if you the received phone call was on hotel's intercom/landline number.
I'm glad that you taught a good lesson to these idiots who don't have any job to do. The most important part here is you are back to home safely without getting into much trouble or extending the issue until the FIR. Typically such guys would just want to empty your wallets and run away. It's good to know about your privacy rights as an individual or even as two adults. Many guys aren't aware of their rights and easily get scammed by such idiots. You made a good decision to carry just Rs.200, that is something I always tell guys to follow before you meet your date. Kudos to your bravery and courage to fight these idiots.
I want to thank each one of you for taking time to read this thread and spreading awareness to create a safe environment.
