@bunny: It all dependsn on the type of the hotel. Many good hotels require you to use the room keycard in order to use the lifts. There are quite a few good hotels that don't require the use of jeycard, making it easier to directly go to the room. If the hotel does not require the card, before you get to the hotel,ask your host on exactly how you get to the lift, dress appropriately so you look like you belong there, walk confidentally towards the lift like you know where you are going....no one will question you.
For hotels that require room key to use the lift, there is no easy way. You can go to the front desk and say you are there to meet so and so. Usually they just call the guest room and the person can tell them to let you come over( usually works if it is before 8pm).
Two other ways- 1. Ask the person you are meeting to leave a room key card in the hotel washroom so you can pick it up 2. Sometimes one of the floors of the hotel does not require keycard. Like the floor that has gym,spa, restauarants. you can go to that floor ( usually there areno attendentson that floor). wait for someone else to use the lift and try to go right after them in the lift.
