Heroes of Gay History in India

With the repeal of Section 377 it is no longer a crime to be gay in India. This calls for a big thank you and showing our appreciation to everyone who contributed in this journey.

There have been many people during the entire course of this journey who have made a difference in a big or small way. Who are the people and organizations that contributed in this journey in a positive manner? Name them here and lets say a thank you to them.

No Picture BigBoyMayan	Posted On Sep 6, 2018 First and foremost Hero who comes to mind is Ashok Row Kavi. He was the first openly gay person in India! He came out at a time when there was absolutely no visibility or even the minutest of acceptance. It was a very brave step. Ever since he has been at the forefront of this fight. He founded the first NGO for the gay community - The Humsafar Trust. This NGO continues to be at the forefront for helping the community. My salute to this Hero and his Courage.

fifty	Posted On Sep 11, 2018 I am not blaming anyone or look down upon anyone. If my post sounded like that, I didnt mean it. Didnt like the phrase "making fuss of sexuality". If you are restrained from leading a full life because of your sexuality or rather the society's (govt included) viewpoint about it, one has the right to feel aggrieved and agitate about it. That's not making fuss. Its my life, I should be able to lead it the way I want.

Just bcoz you or any other particular individual feels like expressing his sexuality in a particular way, doesnt mean you should expect everyone to follow suit. Thts the whole point. Different ppl hv different tastes. Just like sm folks prefer gals n sm prefer guys, i may not be too keen to wear pink or purple. Not bcoz of society or state, just bcoz i prefer sm other color. I may not like to put on lipstick. Doesnt mean tht i despise those who do. Its an individuals personal choice. There ought not be everything in black n white. Thts the whole point.

They are not just heroes.. for me more than that..when I cannot tell my close friend that I am gay... what are things they would undergone in society.. when they come out and on top of it they fighted for rights of whole LGBTQ ppl..Big salute from me...!!!
No Picture Eternal_bliss	Posted On Jun 6, 2019 Dutee Chand - the first Indian sports personality to come out. Hopefully, it should pave the way for several other known faces to come out. It will really help if such known faces come out of the closet, the conservative/unaccepting/homophobic/unaware society members can be made to realise that gays are as normal as any other human being.
fifty	Posted On Jun 6, 2019 she was forced to come out. Her sister was blackmailing her. I read her mother is also not supporting her now. Of course I admire Dutee Chand for coming out rather than buying the silence. I dont know whether her athletics fraternity is supporting her or not.
No Picture Eternal_bliss	Posted On Jun 7, 2019 @ FIFTY...........Wel, she was forced as in, her sister who came to know about her relationship blackmailed her that if she didn't stop it, she would tell everybody. Dutee decided to come out herself rather than give in to her sister's demand. I think she was heroic in that. I have also read about her parents not supporting her, but the media has definitely supported her. Left to be seen, how the sports fraternity supports or shuns her. Going be the success crazy society that we are, I guess, if she wins medals in her forthcoming races, she will be lapped up or else she will be ridiculed.
